Erasmus Plus Project

What is Erasmus Plus

Erasmus Plus is the European Union program for Education , Training , Youth and Sport 2014 -2020, and in Italy it is managed by three different bodies:

  • Youth Sector: Agenzia Nazionale per i Giovani
  • Education sector: Agenzia Nazionale Erasmus+ Indire
  • Learning Sector: Agenzia Nazionale Erasmus+ Isfol

The Youth chapter is aimed at all young people, aged between 13 and 30, regardless of their level and level of education. It makes it possible to have a mobility experience (for example through youth exchanges or a European voluntary service) to acquire knowledge and skills that can be used in the labor market. Social inclusion, together with the promotion of European citizenship, is a priority of this chapter.

Alongside these, the aims of the chapter are: to promote participation in democratic life in Europe and in the labor market, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, solidarity; to promote quality improvements in the area of youth work; integrate political reforms at local, regional and national level and support the development of a youth-based policy based on knowledge and concrete data and the recognition of non-formal and informal learning, in particular through strengthened political cooperation; increase the international dimension of activities in the youth sector and the role of youth workers and youth organizations as support structures for young people.

Each project funded under the Erasmus Plus Youth in Action program allows participants to receive Youthpass, a certificate describing what they have learned during the project activities. This certificate was developed to improve the recognition and validation of non-formal learning, certifying the skills acquired by each individual participant.

What is the European voluntary service

The European Voluntary Service offers young people between the ages of 17 and 30 the opportunity to carry out a voluntary activity in a country of the program or outside Europe, for a period ranging from 2 to 12 months. The children involved as "European volunteers" can be employed in local projects concerning different sectors or areas of intervention such as: culture, youth, sport, social assistance, cultural heritage, art, free time, civil protection, environment, cooperative development, etc.

The European Voluntary Service constitutes an intercultural learning experience in a non-formal context, promoting social integration and the active participation of the volunteers involved. Through this experience, young people have the opportunity to come into contact with new cultures, express solidarity with others and acquire new skills and abilities useful for their personal and professional training.

Travel expenses on the outward and return journeys are reimbursed (a maximum is provided depending on the distance) and board and lodging are covered by the Erasmus Plus program. In addition, the volunteer receives a monthly pocket money for small expenses, depending on the country destination, and is entitled to a few days of "vacation" in addition to the weekly rest.

This year, moreover, marks the twentieth anniversary of the birth of the European Voluntary Service, and there have been many initiatives to celebrate and at the same time promote and spread this important opportunity, an opportunity for growth and personal development.
